HOW TO USE THE AD MANAGEMENT TOOL (CLICK HERE TO OPEN)
- Each Project in Comma Summa has its own unique Ad Form. Ad Forms are not shared across Projects. You must complete and submit the Ad Form before any Ads can be inserted to your Project Templates. If no Ad Form has been submitted for a Project no Ads will be inserted.
- The form management tool allows you edit and then insert Ads into your Templates. This is done by completing the Ad Form and accompanying insert specifications and ‘POST’ ing the Ad Form. Note that Ads will be inserted into all Templates (web and email).
- ‘POST’ ing the content of the Ad Form to Comma Summa replaces the previous Ad Form submission in its entirety. To retrieve and edit an existing Ad Form you can retrieve your existing Ad Form content by submitting a ‘GET’ request.
- Each line pair in the Ad Form is an individual Ad consisting of an anchor link URL and an image link URL pair. These links can be modified by editing and resubmitting the Ad Form. Note that image size should not exceed 1080px in width.
- Ads are inserted into your Templates on each processing run using the methodology and frequency you submit (see below).
- To turn off Ads for a Project you must change the Count to 0. You can also submit a blank Ad Form but this can have unintended consequences in processing. If you have previously submitted an Ad Form for a Project and want to turn Ads off, it is best to ‘GET’ the Ad Form and to resubmit it with its existing content after setting the Count to 0. This preserves the Ad Form content and turns off Ad inserts.
- The Ad Form management tool will not insert an Ad at the beginning of a Template. It also cannot predetermine to insert an Ad at the end of a Template. To accomplish these objectives each Template should be designed with separate modules at the beginning and/or end of the Template into which URL redirects are embedded.
These are the Ad Management Tool specifications:
1. PROJECT NAME – This is the exact name string of the Project for which the Ad Form is being submitted. The Project name is also called a ‘Level’ in Comma Summa. If you have multiple Projects be sure to enter the correct Project name for the current Ad Form you are working on.
2. AUTHORIZATION CREDENTIALS – This is the API Token and API Secret which you were provided on the set up of your Client Account. These credentials are matched to your Projects by Comma Summa and are not Project specific. Keep these credentials confidential. If you believe your credentials may have been compromised or you need to change them for any reason please contact us .
3. INSERTION METHOD – Ads are currently only inserted by random selection ‘Random’.
Random: Inserts Ads per the Count requested (see below) by random selection no matter their order as submitted in the Ad Form. This method can result in duplicate Ads and some Ads not getting inserted.
- With each new Template processing run the Ad insert order restarts the process of random selection. We do not track Ad insert usage.
- If there are fewer Ads in the Ad Form than there are Ad insert Count points the Ads will continue to be randomly selected.
- If there are more Ads than there are Ad insert Count points the Ads will continue to be randomly selected.
4. INSERTION COUNT – This is a numeric input that defines where Ads are inserted into the Templates.
- The number defines where the first Ad is inserted after the first # of summarized comments and then after how many additional # of comments each subsequent Ad is inserted. (e.g. a Count of 5 means that Ads will be inserted after the 5th comment and then every 5 comments thereafter until the end of the Template).
- A 0 (zero) Count means that the Ad insert process will not be run and no Ads will be inserted into the Templates.
- The Count is a required field to submit the Ad Form.
5. AD FORM URL CONTENT – These are the Ad URL’s in matched pairs consisting of an anchor link URL and an image link URL.
